So next year I'll be starting university (college), and I'm having a real dilemma on whether or not I should live on campus.
If I move there, I'll be leaving my chins with my mum... She's looked after them before when I went on holiday, but I'm not sure whether I'll be okay just seeing them on weekends :(

They'd still be in my room, and she'd care for them and let them out for an hour every night. I'm worried how they'd cope not having me in there with them every night from around 5 until bedtime.... And would they forget who I am if I just came home on weekends? Would I not be their mommy anymore? :(

First off, Congratulations! Not everyone chooses to go to college (university), so that's great that you're furthering your education. As someone who has been in college for awhile now (7 years for 3 degrees) I would advise you to live on campus for atleast a year. Living away from your parents will help you develop as an individual and discover who you are as an adult. I feel that I am a much more independent and well rounded person for moving out. I have several friends that commuted from home, and now they are just learning how to live on their own and be adults (and they're in their late 20's).

I didn't have pets when I first went to school, but I know how I would feel if I had to leave my babies in someone else's care. With that being said, I think you're lucky that your Mom is willing to help you care for them. If you have that support then you shouldn't miss out on this great opportunity, just for the sake of you chins.

Honestly, yes, they probably wont be as bonded to you during this time. But as long as your Mom is caring for them they'll be ok. Just remember that college is temporary and hopefully you'll have the next 10-15 years to re-bond with your babies. Who knows, perhaps after a year or two you'll be able to move home and commute, or get an apartment that you can keep your chins in. This is an exciting time in your life, take full advantage of it. Carpe Diem!
