horrible odor and weight loss

my eight year old chin male has loss alot of weight and a horrible odor is present...

I would take him to a vet ASAP. Is he lethargic?

Get the teeth looked at and x-rayed, most common issue with those symptoms.

If it is tooth related I am thinking I do not want to put him through the ordeal of pulling or filing as it usually ends in much pain that doesn't end well...
