Recently my chinchilla has been very energetic and one day while out for play time, he "used" my stuffed animal. In an effort to give him a safe alternative (and give myself a hobby), I made him a cuddle buddy. It's kind of a big, chinchilla sized rectangle stuffed with fleece. I also wanted to see if he could have fleece in his cage without chewing on it, because I wanted to start making some fleece accessories for him.

Well, he didn't chew on it, and he liked it just as much (if not more) than my stuffed animal. Additionally, the next morning he was sleeping on the cuddle buddy and it seems like his new favorite sleeping place. It feels great to see that my work paid off, and he also looks incredibly cute when sleeping on it. I think Chinchy thinks that it's his new wife!

I tried to make a fleece hammock today, but it ended up being too small for him. What size should those generally be? Also, I was going to make a corner hammock for him, what size should those be?

There's a great how-to thread on here for hammocks. It's called something like "how to make hammocks that aren't just square" (try doing a search) I made one with the instructions and I am sewingly challenged :p

I ended up making a giant corner hammock for him last night, and I'm going to salvage the first attempt and turn it into a bed for him. He still prefers the cuddle buddy though, lol. He was sitting on it this morning and eating timothy hay. And he seems to always find an excuse to jump over it or off of it.

DIY is the way to go. I got this fleece from my mom, and also a needle and thread (when I venture to make fleece liners I'm going to use her sewing machine though). Net cost for giant corner hammock, bed, and cuddle buddy: nothing. Not bad at all.
