Hi all,
We have two male chins, Chip (3.5 years old) and Scout (3 yrs old), whom we've had since they were babies. As far as we're aware, they have never peed during playtime in the 3 years we have had them, until this past week. Now, consistently over the past week, we have noticed little puddles after playtime, and connected it to Chip from where he was when it was happening. These puddles are more than just drips, like if you emptied an eye dropper in one big spurt, and there's typically one or two each time. I thought maybe for some weird reason he was marking his territory all of a sudden, but tonight I had the horrible thought that he might have a UTI or kidney stone, although the only info I could find was that dribbling pee might indicate that. We immediately checked his penis and found no hair ring. Upon first inspection, it seemed that it was a little swollen and white at the top, but it didn't seem this way the second time when we double checked. He seems completely normal in every other way other than the pee (drinking, eating, no pee on his fur like it's just dripping, he's running around) so I think I'm probably overreacting, but i just don't get why he'd start peeing NOW, after all this time (and do it consistently as well).
We are supposed to leave for vacation tomorrow morning for 2 days, followed by another 3 day trip that starts the day after we get back. We have someone check in on them everyday to make sure get their food, ect. but if he is sick we don't want him in misery or worse while we're gone. I called out vet ASAP and they said the ER guy in call is not an exotic specialist but we can check at 7 AM about getting a quick appointment.
What does this sound like to you, Chin community? Should I rush over to the ER now despite him not being an exotics doctor? Am I freaking out over a little pee when I should be laughing? Is this likely to be something causing Chip pain/health problems such that I should cancel or delay my vacation? HELP
