I don't see why getting the x-rays is going to make a difference right now. He's lethargic and not moving anyway, so why not snap a picture and see what's going on? He doesn't need to be sedated if he's as bad as you say.

Why do they need to move him somewhere to continue oxygen? The more he is moved around, the more he will be stressed. I personally would want him to stay on oxygen overnight, not take him off then put him back on.

Renee, he's not going to respond after one dose of antibiotic, but you also need to prepare yourself. He sounds like he's in pretty bad shape. I would go in and hand feed him, if he'll eat, make sure they are keeping him hydrated, give him his stuffy or whatever and spend some time with him.

In more advanced URIs, I remember Dawn saying there is something they can give in conjunction with Baytril. Don't remember what it was. Hopefully someone on here will know.

I think you are thinking of chloramphenicol.

I had a critically ill chin who stayed in the hospital for almost a week. I visited everyday and I took his fleece covered tube in to him. They said he did much better once he had the tube to hide in plus it smelled like home. He sounds too ill to be home with you so try to visit him as often as you can.

They did not sedate him to do xrays. They were able to get them today. My vet thinks it's pneumonia. They are sending the xrays to a specialist as well. My vet does not offer overnight care. They cannot leave the oxygen on overnight, I was told.

I would be bringing him home at 7 tonight and take him back at 8 am. I will be doing feedings throughout the night.

I just don't understand why he is so sick at such a young age. I'm crying so hard I can hardly breath.

I think I would find out who could keep him in that oxygen tank until tomorrow when he can go back to your regular vet. That oxygen may be the only thing enabling him to breathe at this point.

Hoping for a good outcome with your chin. My pneumonia stemmed from ear infections or at least that was the common denominator with the cage mates, so you may want them to check your chins/cage mate's ears. And all my sick guys were a few weeks out from weaning :( Hope for the best but prepare for the worst I always think with these little guys.

No advice. Just wanted to say hang in there and our quills are crossed here for a positive morning update.

I'm sad to say he didn't make it. I held him several hours this morning saying goodbye. He snuggled by my neck until we got to the vet's office where he was euthanized.

This morning my mom was also admitted to the hospital. She is anemic.

It has not been a good day. I miss my baby, but Im scared for my mom.

RIP little one :(

I love you <3

Renee, you helped him fight for as long as you and he could. You obviously cared very much for him and tried your best, and in the end, you gave him the gift of a swift passing. I am very sorry for your loss.

I am going to go ahead and close this thread down since you have started a memorial thread.
