Check her belly to see if she is carrying more kits. Her belly should be soft and squishy.

Shes got timothy hay, alfalfa, and chinchilla food, all in on. Ive also thrown in 2 shreddies.

Don't give treats right now, she needs to get good hay, good pellets, and fresh water. What -brand- of pellets is she on? There's a lot of 'chinchilla feed' that isn't healthy.

Laurie, that's a horrible thing the pet store is doing!! Makes me mad! Anyway, regarding your chin and her baby(ies) I can't offer much advice as I don't know alot about breeding, only what I've read here. But as in any "panic" situation try to stay calm and you'll be able to think more clearly. Hopefully the situation will turn out successful and you can pat yourself on the back in the end...GOOD LUCK & keep us posted!

**Sending prayers & big hugs your way**

The dust bath is okay as long as it was before she went into labor. I just wanted to add that the kits probably will lose a little weight the first day or two if mom's milk hasn't come in. After that, they should be gaining every day. If they continue to lose weight, you will need to supplement.

Volunteerchin22 – She had 2 babies. They have been getting along very well. I just brought her home 2 days ago, so no, I don’t have the father. I don’t know who the father is, and I didn’t even know she was pregnant. I have a scale, but mom will not let me near the babies.
Becky – Mom will not let me touch her, I cant see if there are any more babies
Diva Chins – I have been feeding her “Living World” Timothy hay, alfalfa, and chinchilla food. It’s a brand by Hagen
MyFuzzies – Thank you for your support, this is a sticky situation ive gotten myself into, but the babies seem to be doing okay.
Cuddlebug – The babies look very healthy for new borns. They are very active, and eating well

That's great that they are doing well. Just keep a watchful eye. The only thing I can add is that once those babies start exploring, depending on the cage you have, they may escape. You may have to get another cage or get something to put around the cage you have so that they don't escape. Just be careful, they may get caught in between, so it should be snug around the cage.

Thank you all for your suggestions!

Here are a few pictures of my "unexpected additions"
they arnt the greatest because they are from my cell phone

 Oh, they are adorable! I just posted at the same time as you put these pics up. I just wanted to add that they may be able to escape the cage that they are in, depending on the width of the bar spacing.

Bar spacing is one inch, and ive already taped up newspaper all around because one did escape, but i noticed right away

Aw, congratulations. Odds are everything is going to be just fine. You need a baby safe cage right now, all 3 will tear through the paper in no time and the ink is not heathy for them. Thanks for rescuing momma, she may be nice with you when all this is over. It's better she is protective then ignoring her kits. (Hugs) for your ordeal, and welcome to CnH. Theresa

Talk about "baptism by fire" - all in a couple of days! Bet you weren't even thinking about kits!! They all look well and healthy, but like everyone is saying, a "baby-safe" cage is a priority! If you post where you live, maybe another member has an extra! I've even had kits get out of a 30 inch high cage, and the only way out was the center of the top! Wrapping it with hardware screen is dangerous, as the kits climb almost immediatly, or can get caught in between the cage and screen! Good luck with them!

I live in Hamilton Ontario. What is a "baby-safe" cage?

Yes, this is exactly what I wanted to say but my kids were getting off the schoolbus at the same time that I was posting, I have seen them get caught in between the cage and the wire. Sorry, but you have to get another baby proof cage. They an still climb or chew their way out.

I actually had to go buy a bird cage (small, cheap one), where the bar spacing is minimal, I think it was 1/4".

Oops, sorry just found it and measured it, bar spacing is just under 1/2".

But wont mom feel confined?
My cage is 4ft tall, 3 ft width, and 2ft length... its big, and to downsize mom, wont it stress her?

Not at all. My cages for my females are around 24 wide by 12 or 15 high. They are one level and that way the kits don't get hurt. Any time you throw in height or shelves with kits, you run the risk of them falling or being stomped on when mom jumps around.

See, the kits get out and don't get back in so they starve and or freeze to death as well as other animals in the house attack/play with them. Do you have a cat or dog travel carrier? What is the spacing? I think it can't be any bigger than 1/2 X 1 inch.
How should she handle mom while she is being so protective? Use gloves, throw a towel over her to carry her?? Advice?

That's a wonderfully big cage for the Mum but it's far too big for the babies really - they can climb and fall and injure/kill themselves, Mum can jump down and kill them, or she can abandon them and they will starve to death. :(
You need a smaller cage with no shelves so that Mum has to stay with the kits and so that the kits cannot hurt themselves.
A small cage will not hurt the mum for now - her and your priority is the little ones.

Someone on here might be close enough to lend you a kit-safe cage or suggest where you can buy one from.

I would like to suggest trying to find a local chin rescue. I had a similar thing happen with my first chin (she was left in with her brother too long). I did not have use for the "baby safe" cage long term and found a chin rescue that allowed me to borrow a cage on good faith. Or a breeder may have an old baby-safe cage laying around (and they could also determine the kits genders for you).
