I have very bad allergies, and allergy induced asthma. Needless to say, the chinchillas are horrible for me.

What I've found works best is to NOT dust often. I honestly dust maybe once a month, and for days after I am sneezing, coughing and choked up. The chins have gotten used to it as well. It isn't killing or hurting them to go without a dust bath for a while. I also leave a window open at all times to help keep fresh air coming in.

When I do cages I wear a mask, and I wear a mask when dusting. This helps A LOT. I should really wear a mask anytime i am in the room.

I don't have insurance, so I am not on allergy shots (will hopefully start them after I am married) but I do take singular at night and loratadine(claritin) during the day. When I take the two meds together, and don't forget to take them It helps quite a bit.

It's a pain in the butt dealing with allergies/asthma and chins..but can be done. I can't wait to get the chins out of the house too, as that will help my problems even more. However I have 80 chins, not 2.

I picked up some masks at rite-aide and they just are not comforable any special type thats good?

Will chins change over from shavings to liners?

Would love to stop with the shavings but wonder will the chins change over ok? Don`t want them to start urinating outside of cage when out?
