finally decided that, after nearly a year of owning a chinchilla I should actually join this forum instead of just reading it. I have two chinchillas.
My first one, Etrian, I've had since August 2010.

My second chinchilla I've had for about a week. He doesn't have a new name yet, was being called Rocky.
Rocky is in terrible shape right now, scabs and patchy fur, underweight. He was living with a female for about 3 years before I got him. he's already gained some weight and is a lot calmer then he had been.

Hopefully with some time and care, Rocky's fur will go back. They are both handsome guys.

Rocky's fur is not patchy, it's chewed. Whether he did it or whether his cagemate did it remains to be seen. With luck, it will grow back. You may even get lucky and if he did it, it might grow back with the change in environment. It isn't detrimental to his health though, so you don't have to worry about that. It just makes him look like he had a bad hair day.
