Hi guys! Not new to the website since I've been poking around for a while now but decided to join in all the fun.
We are the proud owner of a 4yo standard grey named Bleeps. After searching different places for a few weeks, I get an animated call from Jason (my fiance) saying he's found the one! I was reluctant to meet him since he found him at Petsmart but I am super glad I did.
I've learned a lot about Bleeps' behavior through this website and having a couple different family members stay with us for 8mo to a year. He knows I'm pretty quick and can catch him if I wanted to so he would never attempt certain escapes or mischievous acts around me. He normally jumps on to the shoulders of people he's familiar with and comes to front for petting. However, he will dart out of the smallest opening if Jason is feeding him or even jump from my sister's shoulders onto her head! He knows he OWNS them. It's funny how different he acts towards me making me think that he does see me as his handler (superior/mom/etc).
He's housed in the doubledecker FN cage with lots of ledges and a flying saucer. He's now on Oxbow (1Tbsp 2x day) with plain rolled oats, shredded wheat, & cheerios treats. We used to give him a weekly dandelion drop or dried fruit cube but stopped due to a breeder's suggestion. He loves the healthy stuff just as much so we've cut the sugary ones to rare treats. He also enjoys the occasional lick of wine from our dipped fingertips. We know it's probably not good for him but we allow him that vice here and there. He absolutely LOVES licking workout sweat from your forehead. He's such a silly man.
As far as his behavior, he doesn't make ANY noises. Sometimes he'll give a warning cry if you scratch or brush him wrong, some chattering here and there, and some passed-out-fetal-position-dreaming honks (he literally sounds like a goose)! He stares at you all the time, the favorite being his corner watchtower ledge. He's let out for 20m to an hour and navigates the living room like a ninja. He totally knows that we use a curtain as a false door (contains the AC during the summer), will barrel through it if you're not watching him, and start the please-chase-me game. Seriously such a silly fellow.
He has a few stuffed animals in his cage which he lays on, drags/drops between levels, and uhm.. releases himself on. When he was first brought home he tried to use my hand and I didn't want this to become a problem with guests. Hence his stuffed companions were born. He still tries to get "aggressive" with me, but will now run fast and find his friend.
One of the biggest perks about him is that he is half potty-trained. There are two folded paper towers that he pees on, one in each half of the FN cage. Oddly he prefers the bottom one, often waking from sleep, running downstairs for release, then running back up. Having him trained this way eliminates the need for me to buy and clean up tossed bedding. (Tossed poop is a whole other story!!!)
Hope that gives you an insight on Mr. Bleeps and I. Please feel free to ask me any questions and please don't mind my silly ones on your threads. =D
