The past week or two when I have taken Annie out to play, I have noticed that when I am holding her she makes soft squeaking noises. It kind of sounds like a hamster, or some times I think she sounds more like bird chirping. lol It's hard for me to describe. So I had been thinking that this was a good sound- that she was happy- but then yesterday I had to give her a bath to get rid of her little "poopy boots" and she made the same noise while in the sink- while trying frantically to escape.
So what does Annie mean by this sound?

She's probably just being vocal. Some of their little snuffling wiffling sounds can be quite loud. Probably while in the sink she was saying some not so nice words to you. lol

When Penny used to reside in my room, some days she would do that soft squeeking sound a lot. At first, I ripped my room apart trying to find out where the heck the noise was coming from, and later found out it was her!

So does that mean that when she's "squeaking" when I hold her, that's good or bad?

Cavalier and Rosa do this through their cage all night long. It rather loud. I can actually hear it two rooms over. But its definitely like a bird chirping.. LOL

I always considered the chirping/squeaking a good thing since Kiah only seems to do it when he's happy.... does your hedgie enjoy baths?

Well Annie does it while she's out playing and I am holding her, so I figured it was a good thing. Then I was confused when she was doing it in the sink because she doesn't appear to like baths...she tries really hard to get out of the water and looks scared.

She may have only one noise that she makes and does it in all situations. I wouldn't worry about it too much though...

However, my hedgie will make little squeaking noises in the bath, but that's because he dipped his face in the water and it blowing the water out of his nose. Could that be what your little one is doing?

Well it is possible that she just makes very similar noises for different situations I suppose.
I know its not the water in the face thing because her face never came near the water last time I bathed her...just her feet were in the water to wash her feet off.

I think this may stay as an unsolved mystery... :err:

Hedgies are very mysterious when it comes to sounds... Last night, my finace' was having a stare contest with our little guy and Kiah started making the huffling and even the pop noises.... without balling up. Just staring, making noises. He's such a punk.

I think you'll only have to worry if your hedgie is coughing or sneezing a lot since that could signal a respiratory problem.... Good luck with the little one!
