I would really like to see all the hedgie cages so I get the motivation to make my "Decor"! So far I am Spending alot on a cage and supplies and comparing prices for like a month now so I'm like really getting frustrated :banghead::impatient: please post cages!:)

I am thinking about making a cage for my hedgie using a baby playpen. It is open on top, and has netting on the side, letting in enough air. I am starting her on fleece liners and it would be so easy to clean since there is a plastic pad on the bottom of the pen. I am also going to put a heat lamp on the side. What do you think? Would this be an alright idea?

You will need a top on it as the mesh is very easy to climb. I know, I have a playpen I use as a playpen when people come to visit.

I think the pen came with a regular blue sheet that can fit over the top. Would that work?

I think the sheet would work as long as it is *securely* fastened and has enough overhang so your hedgie cannot easily climb out.

Personally, I'd be hesitant about using the playpen as a main cage, but that's because my Arcturus is a climber.

Have you considered cubes & coroplast instead, or were you thinking of the baby playpen because you already had it?

Good luck with your cage building! : )

Yeah we found the playpen cheap and got it, thinking we'd use it just for play time. Then we got to thinking of how we wanted to get her a bigger cage anyway (and can't afford much due to moving to a new house at the moment) and thought that could work. I have never seen Hazel climb and she's had opportunities. This of course doesn't mean she won't surprise us, but I think we might try it for a day and see how she does. The meshing also is higher up if I remember right. I am also starting her on fleece liners when we move.
One thing I wanted to ask is about heating lamps or pads. What is the best (and most reasonably priced) thing to use? We have a heat vent near where her cage will be. I'm not sure what would work better and also where to get a thermometer to keep track of the temp. Any tips would be great!
