So I was wondering, I've been feeding my hedgehog Innova's Light Cat kibble for two years, and he's been doing very well on it. Just wondering, what kinds of things should I try feeding him other than his kibble? I've tried scrambled eggs and a few kinds of veggies, neither of which he's even tried.

Mine like cooked chicken, turkey, boiled egg, melon, apple, crickets, and mealworms the best for treats.

Annie likes mealworms, crickets, chicken, baby food, wet cat food, and ferret treats. She gets treats in small moderation. Everything else I have tried like eggs, fruits, and veggies, she doesn't like. Of course being vegan, I get the hedgehog that just goes for the meat! lol :)

You can add bugs like mealworms, but remember to give in moderation (too much fat). Cooked peas, cooked squash, tuna, salmon (unseasoned)...pears...banana...

Baby food ? you can feed a hedgie baby food as a treat ?? hmmm lol I have TONS of 0+ month baby food that my son grew out of.

Also whats the dealio with hedgies and milk products I have heard to not give it to them as it is bad and I have also heard you can give them small amounts of sour cream, yogurts etc. Can someone shed some light on this for me please.

Thank you

Babyfood fruits are a big hit here! Dairy is not always well tolerated by hedgehogs so a lot of hedgies ignore it. Some hedgies will eat bits of cottage cheese and yogurt and have okay poops. Some will become constipated or have diarrhea so it's kind of trial and error. That's my approach when introducing foods other than their staple kibble. You have to offer them new foods several times before deciding they don't like it. When introducing new foods, try one new food item at a time for a week. If you introduce too many at once, you won't be able to tell which ones caused upset tummies

mine occasionally will eat watermelon, but they prefer the wriggling mealworms over fruits and veggies. most mammals cannot eat/drink dairy. after they (including humans) are weaned they lost the enzyme to digest lactase. A lot of the human population has a mutated gene that allows them to continue to digest it though, but most mammals, hedgehogs, dogs and cats included shouldn't have dairy - causes stomach upsets, gas, bloating, etc.

At what age can you start introducing these types of foods?
