Three years ago, while living by myself (with my dog) in my apartment--which was surrounded by woods--I would hear faint music (not music in my head, but actually in my apt) as I lay in bed before going to sleep. It sounded as if it was coming from some kind of radio, and I could hear what appeared to be a male DJ's voice over the music. I was never able to identify the DJ or the genre of music. The odd thing was there was never a tv, cd player, or radio on when I'd hear it. At first I'd get out of bed and check just to be sure that there indeed weren't any audible electronics on. One night my (ex)boyfriend spent the night, and as we lay in bed, I heard him say, "Do you hear that?" Sure enough, he was hearing the same thing. I don't remember when exactly the music started, but I heard it routinely for months.

I never told anyone about it for fear they'd suspect schizophrenia or that I was just making it up. Fast forward to present day. I live with my boyfriend in his house, which is in a residential area too but somewhat in a "country" setting. About a month ago I started hearing phantom music here too, only it wasn't the same music; it sounds like a symphony of some sort, or at least music of a high tempo. One night one of us mentioned it, and it turns out he and I both hear it.

I've been reading online to see if anyone else has the same experience. Those who do have been told to "seek help", get their hearing checked (it could be tinnitis), or that what they're relaying is a form of this: " The time as you're falling asleep, or as you're awakening, can be filled with vivid sounds and images. It's something like lucid dreaming, something like hallucinating, often very real-seeming and noticeable. As you go into sleep, that time is called the hypnagogic state. As you're awakening, it's called the hypnopompic. There are all sorts of interesting things that can happen during those times, including things like music, voices, and various illusions. " For my boyfriend and I, these theories don't hold much weight because one, we are both very lucid (and we heard it independently of one another); two, we are fairly young and don't listen to music loudly, so our hearing is fine; and three, we aren't asleep when we hear the music, not even falling asleep. We are simply lying quietly in bed.

Some people have given the explanation that what we--and others--are encountering is a form of astral projection, of psychic phenomena. I won't dismiss that theory, particularly because my bf and I have concluded beyond a doubt his house his is (benignly) haunted. However, I believe the following is the most likely: " This link talks about how as we AP we actually pick up radio waves.

Radio Waves

When I first heard music and voices while astral projecting, and within cord range activity (0-10 feet of my body) I thought I was perhaps reaching into the higher planes of the astral. I was wrong. What I was detecting was radio waves. I realized this when I recognized music that was played on local radio stations. The music I first heard was classical which is why I thought it might be higher planes, but when I heard pop songs, advertisements, and DJ's talking, I knew this was just regular radio frequencies. I even heard the time and was able to wake myself up and confirm that it was accurate. Once again, this points back to my topic on the "Filter Factor". So much is screened from our awareness while in the body. I have read, and have been recently told that "it's all about vibrations" and I'm thinking that is very true. Sounds, light, density, is all based on vibrations.
" I have long believed that was the case, before I even knew it was actually possible. And it seems the most logical explanation of what is occurring. But how and why we--and countless others--are picking up such frequencies/vibrations, I have no clue.

Anybody else have similar experiences?? :hmm:

Yea, sometimes I hear things. I used to hear my name all the time.

I figured it was just background noises I was hearing and perceiving them as something familiar, such as a human's voice or music. As humans, we are inclined to sense things we are used to like seeing faces on the moon or hearing someone's voice when it's really just wood creaking and leaves rustling etc.

Often when I'm driving in my car with Chloe and I turn the radio on, I have it on quite quiet so I don't scare her. I can be listening to a song and think it's one song or a commercial the entire time, but when I turn it up I realize it's a completely different song or something I wasn't hearing. I think our mind takes sensory input and fills in the blanks when we can't fully hear/see etc. it very clearly. My mind heard a song I know because I know it, but it wasn't actually playing.

I don't know anything about the radio waves thing, but I would think if someone could pick up radio waves, they'd pick up many of them at once. And we wouldn't need antennas or tuners since everyone would be able to hear the radio. I don't know that our ear can react like that to things like radio waves. I think you need a conductor to direct radio waves, since they are electromagnetic.

You know, I'm gonna go out on a limb here (This is my boyfriend's theory)-

Since you, your ex bf and now your new boyfriend now hear this music. What kind of furniture in your bedroom (or close to it) that you have had in both places- your apt and the new house? He thinks that there could be a piece of metal that the radiowave is causing to vibrate. Whatever you are both hearing could be a low level sound that both of your brains are trying to assign musical signifigance. Ever hear music in random noise? Or you could actually be hearing a radio station..

Do you hear this every night? If so, sleep in another room or start moving furniture out one by one. Also, how far did you move from your last apt and the new house?

This is an example of how this happens: There have been people with metal fillings in their mouth and they live near a radio tower. It causes the metal in their mouth to vibrate at a certain frequency and they hear the music.

He says, "Most likely you are experiencing quantum mechanics at its finest" lol..

I agree with this theory since you, your ex and your new bf have heard this music.

I used to have a set of computer speakers that would very faintly play AM radio at night if the cord was laying just right. The cord was acting as an antenna and the speakers played the analog music they picked up. I was slightly inebriated one night and thought it was ghosts until I listened and heard that it was politics.

This has happened to me MANY times over the years. I'm glad I'm not the only one!!

oh wow! this is a very neat subject, and one i've been scratching my head over since i moved into my apartment in fall of '09. every now and then when it's quiet in my place i'll hear faint music that is clear enough to make out the lyrics. the wierd part is, it's always a song i know well, and never music or songs i'm not familiar with. funny eh? i know for a fact it is not coming from any of my surrounding neighbour's suites, since i'm an end unit and the only suite i'd hear anything from is above me and the tenants there work out of town often. i know when they are home because they walk heavy as heffalumps up there, lol!

and i do have a couple of metal fillings from the 80's still, one rather large. i found that part of your post super interesting Pikaia!

My boyfriend said he's tested this theory, and he even heard the music when there was no metal furniture in the room. I find it interesting that out of all the places I've lived--numerous houses/apts--I've only heard this music in my former apt and in my current house (both surrounded by a lot of trees and open land). And I've always had a metal bed in every place.

Bf tested this as well, and he heard the music whether or not there were speakers around. Also I don't have any metal fillings, so that wouldn't be the common thread for me.

My bf doesn't think it's possible to record the sounds, lol, otherwise we probably would. In regards to the psychic phenomena theory I mentioned, it's interesting to note that many people were children when they experienced this....which is also what some people have said in regards to seeing ghosts/spirits; a lot of them say they see paranormal activity as children, only to "forget" or no longer see it as they get older. Also, oddly enough, I can't remember hearing any of this "music" when I was kid.

The radio wave thing sounds plausible to me since it's such a faint music we here, and we've both walked all over the house trying to figure out where it comes from. But also, we know the house is haunted (DVD player has turned on by itself, speakers in a room at the back of the house have made static even after they've been unplugged, etc.), so perhaps there is just some kind of extra frequencies, energy floating around, and so forth.

But as so many of you guys have said, either way it's fun to wonder!

To add my oddities to the thread, when I started reading this thread, I knew exactly where the OP was going with this topic, because I could swear I read this exact same post a few months ago. Since you only joined in February, I doubt it was you - but I swear, reading your post was like serious Deja vu!
