About six months ago I switched Marble from Mazuri to Oxbow because the oxbow stuff comes in a 5lb pound and the Mazuri only a 2.5. The calculation is per pound Mazuri was costing me a dollar more and it was making him poop soft. He's doing fine on the Oxbow food but he is going through it in only two months. My other chin used to go through the 2.5 Mazuri bag in two months. What's the deal here with the voracious appetite? I have to refill his pellets twice a day and the hay once a day. I can't cut back because he gets very concerned if his dish doesn't have food in it-meaning he makes all kinds of noise until I put more in there.

Well, it sounds to me that he prefers the Oxbow much better and is eating a lot of it. I see no problem with that except it's going to cost you a little more to feed him. :)

I would always keep his bowl full and let him eat as much as he wants. Also, of course, give him lots of hay, too, to keep his belly full.

I switched both of my boys to Oxbow several months ago because 1 was having the same issues you described. One eats A LOT more than the other, and there was a significant weight gain with Oxbow. I keep pellets in their bowl all the time as well as the hay.

He's not gaining or losing at the moment but boy does he like eating it. He likes the oxbow botanical hay too. When I was buying timothy hay from the feed store he'd just nibble it here and there but this botanical stuff he eats it all by the next day.

sounds like he likes it more. Just let him eat as much as he wants.

I switching my chins from Mazuri to Manna Pro right now and mine all seem to like it more. So they eat a lot more of it. I was buying a 25lb bag of Mazuri for $15+. I now get a 50lb bag of Manna Pro for $14

Why is Mazuri so expensive? I think he's eating more of the oxbow stuff because the bits are smaller and crunchier. From what I remember of Mazuri the bits were chunkier and softer. Maybe it's a texture thing.
