My chin is a hay destroyer .She goes through like a handful of hay in less than an hour . Now I only put new hay in her cage once a day because I'm pretty sure if I put new hay in there as soon as she ate it I'd be ridiculously over feeding her. Is this normal for her to want that much hay ?

I think they can have all the hay they want. Chins dont tend to over eat, I would just let her have at it as long as it was being eaten. I keep hay and pellets in my cages all the time.

Chins don't over eat, they exhert themselves so much that they need to constantly be eating and should have hay available at all times. The more they eat the better. Plus hay wears down the back teeth so again the more they eat the better!

yup give them as much hay as possible, mine were the same way, but now they wait until everyone is out of the room to destroy the hay...

I free feed hay as well, but my chin doesn't devour it as heartily as some. But she is really good at getting it everywhere!

I give mine as much as she'll eat (mind she only eats the parts she wants, everything else ends up on the bottom of the cage)

i also open feed my chins though i have to i have a really picky chin who pees allover her food and hay container if i dont have the "proper" amount of hay in it or if im not using a specific container for the hay. i had a really nice large ceramic bowl for hay i oone i used to try to use for hay instead of her smaller one . she just throws a fit in it and i wind up with piles of waste covered hay.

Thanks for all the comments everyone I realize now her hay destruction is more common then i thought . I'm now free feeding her and she seems very happy .
