I'm thinking about changing from loose hay to cubes. I'll still give them some loose hay but not as much as they have now. These guys are free fed hay and pellets. The hay doesn't seem to be that great right now. I have picky chins and I already went through 2 bales in 1 1/2 months. The animal shelters benefit from the hay because what I know my chins won't eat I just bag it for the shelters. On cubes do you put them in a container or just put them on shelves or on the shavings?

I just throw them in the cages too, they will take them out and eat them or toss them pretty quickly.

It doesn't matter where I put the hay cubes in their cage, I end up finding remnants of the cubes in very strange places, lol.

My chins get loose hay and hay cubes. I see it that the loose hay wears down the back teeth where as the hay cubes wear down the front, so they get both.
I put the hay cubes either near their loose hay or on a shelf near their food bowl.

I put mine in at the bottom and the chins throw them all over the place. Im always afraid they are gonna knock another chin out if they drop it off the top shelf! lol

I personally give both. I have some that love loose & some that love the cubes, so i just do both. I figure the cubes help keep them busy & entertained & the loose hay helps also keep them busy, but helps their teeth a lot. Its rougher (we get first cut), so i see benefiits to each.

Thank you everyone for your input. I purchased 50 lbs last night of alfalfa/timothy mix cubes. I just put it on the bottom of the cages and they seemed to like it.
