There seems to be a lot of debate going on about what qualities people should consider when breeding. Out of curiosity I want to see how many of us have ever owned a chin with Maloclussion (Any form of dental disease, spurs, root elongation, etc..) or any other genetic conditon (heart murmurs ets...) I know some of us have owned multiple chins with these issues, so feel free to specify the number of chins in the comment section. Many of these conditions usually don't start popping up until an animal is a few years old. So this poll is geared more toward people who have owned chins for years or have chins that are atleast 2-3 years old.

Thanks!

1 chin with spurs/ jaw misallignment and 1 chin with a heart murmur.

A chin with root elongation and a heart murmur. It's been a while, I didn't own him long though, the malo was very advanced when I got him.

I had a chin with root elongation. She was only 4 years old, from a good breeder, so it does happen.

8 malo chins, 5 heart murmur chins-two died directly due to it, 2 related chins with tumors in the digestive tract, other chins with dental issues that were mild.

You don't have a "no issues" option.

I've honestly never had one malocclude on me, or anyone report back that any of my babies have done so. I can't say on the murmurs as most have never been checked. The few that have been to the vet have not had them.

Edited to say I did purchase a line that had genetic seizures, come to think about it.

i have one chin with multiple mouth issues; spurs, misaligned jaw, rotten tooth, mild elongation off roots. he was about 4 or 5 when these issues presented themself. i have been dealing with and treating him for these problems for 2 years.

I have a chin born without all his limbs--one of his arms is not complete which is a birth defect--the other limbs and half of his tail were removed by his mother at birth.

I have several chins with low quality fur which is a birth defect as a result of poor breeding IMO. These chins are also small and have rat faces--again a birth defect resulting in poor breeding.

I have one 5 year old with multiple teeth issues. He started having problems in his first year. I also have a 3 year old with recurring bladder stones which may be genetic but we are currently treating him for an unusual bladder infection that might be the cause. Time will tell.

I had a chin with multiple teeth issues; rotten teeth, spurs.
I had a female with a pyometra.

I have one guy that has/had Malo and root elongation, he's been doing good. I have one guy that is blind, and two boys that are sterile.

Rescues and my first two pet chins.
Heart murmur, malo, spurs, fur chewing... all pet store animals.
My reason to get into breeding. Health above all and quality.

Pyometra is not a genetic issue. It can happen to any chinchilla under specific environmental conditions.

I've had two with malo, both bought and recently had one with lymphoma. Also had some other odd genetic issues, but most of the genetic issues pop up in animals I buy or animals that are surrendered to me.

Oh wait! I forgot about the two crazy ones that cost me a fortune... I had one girl that was born without a vaginal opening, she got... I dont remember what it was called, an infection of the uterus, but it didnt gangrene because it was a sterile environment, but when they went for the spay she died. I also had a little male white violet that had something wrong with his kidneys, dribbled urine all the time, chewed part of his.. um... sheath off. He had one of his kidneys removed and was fine after that.

Not sure if my little girl has a defect, or if mum accidentally bit off her toes when she was a baby, but my little Ed is missing all her fingers on one of her front paws. Doesn't bother her at all though.
