I noticed my chinchilla's trying to clean himself for about 3 days now, today I noticed he had a tiny hair ring (he's never had this before). I'm scared to death in trying to take it out. :/ Has anyone dealt with having to do this for your chin and any ways to ease the process? He does not like to be held and the biggest worry I have is him moving and getting him still.

I can't do it, I tried 4 times and the penis wont come out. What happens if I leave him a lone? Will he get it out by himself? I'm worried as heck and I'm not 100% sure he has a hair ring all I know is I saw him trying to clean himself. I noticed he drank a lot of water more than usual. All of the videos make it seem easy but it's not.

You can't leave for him to do it himself. He could get sick or even worse loose blood circulation and die.
I myself had to do this I watched a video utube first and learned how to do it. Let me see if I can find it.

Please help this is the problem. I watched all the videos i could find. I cant pull his penis out or however i'm supposed to do it. I'm so scared in hurting him and really cant extend it. he can do it by himself but i can't.

You need to try to push the sheath down to expose the "head" of the penis (not sure exactly if that part has a name) and once the head is exposed, you hold it and gently pull it out and away from his body. You can do it, it just takes some practice to do it easily. Do you have someone who could hold him for you while you do it? It's a bit easier if you're not trying to restrain him and pull it out, if you have two hands for getting it out it can be easier if you are having problems.

It just takes alot of practice......this was horrible for me the first couple times because I was nervous about hurting him or not doing it correctly. It will help alot if someone else can hold him. I do it all myself though and when they get upset and get kicking I stop for a minute and get them to calm down and try again, They sometimes could get it themselves, but I'd keep trying as alot of times you should check once a month I've heard, while others check when they see them starting to clean themselves alot.
Just keep practicing and be extremely gentle. Maybe even go to the vet and have them show you how if you vet has taken care of chins before, I know it might not be possible as I never go if something isn't wrong, but thats how i learned, of course it was for a check up. If not, just watch more videos and take your time.

Dawn, I was pretty sure it was your video, but it didn't say. It what I used the first time I did a check on my boys, it was very helpful. I had my boyfriend hold them and it was much easier than doing it myself.
