Ok, so my male chinchilla has deformed genitals. I don't really know what to do about a hair ring check with him... Can someone help? If I need to post a picture I will, but his penis is like a 'L' shape and is almost over his poophole.

Do you mean that his penis is continually out of its sheath? Do you know if he was born like that or has it just recently happened?

He was born with deformed genitals, and I do not know that it is always out. I am going to assume that it's always out, but I do not know for sure.

I will try to remember to get a picture and post it tonight. I hope someone can help me... I am not sure if I need to do a hair ring check or even how with the deformed genitals. And the breeder who I got it from, never even mentioned it.

thanks to all who tried to help, but I got ahold of the breeder finally. Apparently I do not have to do the hair ring checks.

Why would you not have to do a hair ring check? Fur and fleece fuzz can still wrap itself around his penis if he ever pleasures himself or humps either another chin or fleece pillow or other stuffed animal.

Some people have issues with fleece fuzz wrapping itself around the penis even from just having fleece liners, so if you have any fleece in his cage it could still happen. I'm not sure why the shape of his penis would make a difference?

Well, it's continuously outside of the sheath apparently. I suppose that I would notice if there was a hair ring... I can post a picture still if you really want to see why/how his genitals are deformed. But my breeder said that I will not have to do them... So, since this is my first chin, I was only going by what she said since she is the breeder... I love my chin and just want the best for him... But it's new to me.

Are you sure it's entirely out of its sheath? A chinchilla penis is pretty long. So if it were entirely out of its sheath it'd most likely be dragging on the ground behind him..
Here's a site that shows it fully extended
http://www.spoiledchins.net/hairring.htm

I mean, it's entirely up to you if you want to attempt a hair ring check. Most of the time a chin is able to clean itself properly, but as you can see on that site, they can and do build up. And they become very painful if not taken off.

Thank you so much. I can attempt that. I am going to try to get a picture and show you what I mean because it's bent funny and kind of holds his poo in... Not that it won't come out on it's own, but it's over the whole.
