I like my title.
Now, on to my post. I have been contemplating something, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice or if they've tried it before, etc.
I want to print up chin info sheets, very simple, with the major list of dos and don'ts. I also want to print separate little pieces of paper that say "DONT BUY ME, I AM NOT HEALTHY" to tape onto bags of Kaytee Fiesta food, and all those other poopy foods that pet stores try selling. And I need to tell my local Petco to immediately cease and desist in their habit of giving oranges to their chinchillas.
Questions.
1. Can I get in trouble?
2. If so...how much trouble?
3. Anyone tried this before?
4. What is the best place to hide these fact sheets? Should I sneakily replace any chinchilla info that for example Petco has near their cage with the CORRECT info?
5. Do you think I'm crazy?
Thanks dahlings ;)

Personally I think it's a waste of time. If any worker sees those on the bags or that there's different care sheets they're just going to throw them away.

It wouldn't hurt to talk to them about the oranges, but I think printing things off without talking about it is a bit pointless.

Talk to the manager about the fresh fruit, tell them you own chins and such and work very hard to keep them happy and healthy and do extensive research, etc. Let them know that you'd be glad to print up a "current" ( don't say theirs is wrong, just tell them it's outdated, it's less offensive ) sheet for them to use. For the food, they won't listen and they can ban you from the store. Pet stores are in business to make money, that means selling stuff.

I think it's funny that people are worried about what their pets eat, but what have YOU eaten today. I've never heard of anyone wanting to put signs on food at the grocers etc. Many people don't know...

You can talk to the manager about the food, ask them to offer and recommend a quality food. If you really want to help offer to do a monthly seminar on chins at the store. They usually see it as a plus because people will come in and buy things and hopefully chins. You'll be educating, but yet promoting the pet store sales... it's a double edged blade.

That is the best idea in the history of forever, me thinks. At least in regards to this topic.

A good informative information sheet can go a long way if presented to the right level of management at the big box stores. Heck if you do the layout correctly, you could even include a place for their logo as well. Do something fancy like "Provided by Petco" and in little print in partnership with....

I know the local PetSmart's get most of their small animals from Lollypop Farms, which has a good program for their animals and I believe is reflected to some extent at the local pet stores.

I have wanted to do a chinchilla education presentation for a long time, I just am having a hard time figuring out where to do it because I feel weird asking schools, although I think it would be really helpful. Especially after seeing what Fritz and Chewy went through...teenagers don't know how to care for animals unless they've been taught...you can't just get a chinchilla because it's cute and expect it to be like a hamster!

Thank you all so much for your suggestions. I was really angry about the chin food that had extras in it...I wasn't really gonna put paper there, I know I could get kicked out :\
