I finally got Ozzy on the scales and got him weighed. Hes 349 g! Not sure if that's a healthy weight or not. But from what I've been reading hes with in the normal bracket! Just wanted to share =)
Elmo was 390g grams when I brought him home from the pet shop 6 yrs ago, now he's 635g as of last week's weighing session.
I wouldn't worry too much if he's healthy and pigging out.
How old is she? And, do you mean 1 pound 2.5 ounces (510 grams)? 1 pound is 16 ounces so that means what you posted was 2 pounds, 9 ounces (1162 grams).
O sorry yeah i wasnt thinking right. They said 125 i was thinkibg that ment ounces but obviously not. Maybe 1.25 grams?! I really dont know. He measured her weight on the scale then got a paper that told him how to turn that number into a diff one.
Newborn kits weigh an average of 40 - 50 grams so 1.25 grams would be a very tiny chinchilla. Even 125 grams is small. That would mean that the chinchilla is not big enough to be weaned. It is not impossible that the chin weighs 1162 grams (2 pounds, 9 ounces). There are a few members on here that have chins that size. It would just mean that you have a very large chinchilla. 510 grams (1 pound, 2.5 ounces) is more likely.
No problem. Having a scale on hand (one that weighs in grams) is a good idea. You can weigh your chinchilla monthly or even weekly. This can help you notice problems before the chinchilla shows any symptoms since weight lose is often the first sign of illness.
Yes that would be about 538 grams. But with the talk of big chins early we had one here weigh over 1200 grams last week, she had kits since then though.
