I have a couple Super Pet Chew Proof bottles, and they're just okay. Sometimes the water does not flow good, which worries me dearly. I just ordered a couple 16 oz, 5/8 inch tube glass water bottles made by Lixit in a panic. Just wondering if these are any good. Also, is there a better glass water bottle out there?

Here is the Lixit bottle.

I've used lixit in the past, glass ones, but I'm butter fingers so break them. :( I've been very happy with Lixit, so I think it should work for you. :)

i bought the 8 oz lixit glass water bottle off http://www.camphorchins.com/store_cage.html . it has a little floating turtle in it that lets you see if your chinchilla is drinking water regularly. i used to have this opaque water bottle and i could never tell if rutherford was drinking water or not. i like it a lot, though i don't recommend putting it in your carrier--it leaks loads. it doesn't leak at all when placed on the cage.

I also use the lixit ones that Stacie linked to and like them. I don't have any leaking problems with them.

For what it's worth, chins in a carrier don't need water. Just offer water when you stop for gas. Many times they don't drink anyways.

I am not sure why the bottle I got is so much more expensive than the ones you posted. I looked a little deeper and most of the bottles by Lixit are under $10, except the type I purchased. The description does not say that there is anything special about them either. It looks like I probably wasted my money. If anyone can point what is so special about the water bottle I bought that the price is doubled, please do. Also, I would like to hear some reviews on this bottle as well.

I got the bottles today in the mail. They have a rubber stopper, rather than a screw top. I am taking them back and I just bought the water bottles that you ladies linked at PetSmart. Thanks.

i have 5 of those glass super pet bottles atm. Used for all my ferrets and chinchillas. They work fine. Tho sometimes they leak if the water pressure is off. Just attache it to the cage, and tap the end for water a little bit to let some air in. It should work itself out

Lixit 32 ounce glass bottle hands down.
I've had mine for several years now...easy to fill, can be hung on the outside of the cage..and even dishwasher safe.

I have used every water bottle under the sun and havnt found ANY I like until I got a lixit. Its the BEST :)) Definitely has my vote

Lixits are okay. I don't like that they sometimes leak. I also don't like that they are a pain in the butt to clean. You have to buy a special brush for them. I also don't care for the fact that the tubes are metal with a ball in them, so you can't run something through them and be sure that they are clean, like you can with the glass tubes in the Ryerson's bottles. They are okay for the money, but far from my favorite.

As far as a 32 oz. bottle, how often do you change/clean it? I would think that would be pretty pointless with 3 chins. I hang a 16 ounce bottle on a cage with 3 chins and for some it would last a day or two for other groups it would last a week. I would worry about water sitting for that long in a 32 ounce bottle, unless of course you dump and change it every couple days.

I simply rinse mine out under the spicket (sp) and refill the water bottles at a minimum every 3 days when doing cage cleanings. They are dishwasher safe too..and I typically try to toss them in there at least once a month (but they never become nasty- like no food backwashes into them or anything). And with the stainless steel ball valve I simply use a baby toothbrush from the dollar tree to clean it out...but I've also used Q-tips prior to my figuring out that the baby toothbrushes are able to reach into it.

And I have 2 chins in 1 double ferret nation and 1 in another double ferret nation and regardless of how many I keep would NEVER recommend leaving water for a week...but that's just me.
