I currently have a 9 month old male chinchilla named Bryson. He has become rather bored and tries to entertain himself by throwing a stuffed raccoon around his cage. He will take it to the very top of his cage and hang it over the edge, then drop it and watch it fall, then run down to the bottom, grab it, and repeat this over and over. :confused2: He is still quite young and such a good boy, he even plays with my dachshund. I'm starting school again here soon, but I have to take night classes this semester. My little buddy will be home alone from like 5pm to 11pm, which means his play times will have to be in the afternoons. I'm thinking about getting him a friend to play with at night while I am away at school. My friend is being shipped out overseas here soon, and he is most likely going to give me his 4 month old male chin, cage and all. So do you think there will be a problem with introducing them since they are both still young. What should I watch out for and such? I don't want him treating the baby like he does his stuffed raccoon. ;). Any advice would be well appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome to CNH! Chins often do well in pairs so getting a friend for your chin can be a good idea as long as you follow the correct quarantine and intro procedures. If you do a search on the forum you can find some info to help you do that. Also, just make sure that both chins really are males...you have no idea how many chins are missexed. It will help that they are both young. Watch out for fighting, fur slips, and any resulting injuries. It is a good idea to have two cages in case they dont get along, so that's good that he would give you his cage too. Give whichever cage you are going to use a good scrub and maybe replace some ledges so that they are on as neutral ground (smell wise) as possible when it's time to cage them together. Good luck!
