these lil guys will be my first chins and I have did my homework on everything. I just have a few questions to someone with more experience....
We are planning on keeping them in our bedroom. We run our ceiling fan at night and I'm wondering if that will be ok???
I have read they like it quiet during the day, and I have 2 kids that are far from quiet! Is this a big thing to think about?

My girls are in my living room which has a ceiling fan. They are not directly under it and if I stand close to their cages, I can't even feel it blowing on them. A fan blowing directly on them or a drafty area is not good. As far as the noise goes, they need some quiet time during the day for good rest but they get used to noise. Mine sleep through anything now!

The ceiling fan won't be a problem. I have chinchillas in my living room. They can adjust to whatever is going on around them. By the way, if your chinchillas are coming from different places, you will need to quarantine them from each other for 30 days in separate cages and separate rooms.

We run the ceiling fan at night, and I was hoping it wouldn't bother them!

They are all coming from the same place, with the same mom and dad!

I have a very noisy household, and my chin isn't bothered in the least. It will take time for your chins to adjust to a new environment, and you may want to keep them in a quieter area of the house while they adapt, but I think they will become accustomed to a noisier, crazier household just fine. I have noisy kids, birds, and dogs and my chin is ok with our zoo.

That's a lot of chinnies! Grats!

The fan will be fine as long as it's not directly on them. If you feel it is, putting a fleece blanket over the cage when it's on would help.

Chins can't come out for play time until they are at least 6 months of age, just so you know ;)

I am going to disagree with the above post. I say treat any chin you get just like you're always going to treat them.

Ceiling fan is fine, and for the kids, keep your room closed and they should be fine!

Congrats on your babies! You're in a good place to get some great information!

Me? lol. It's safer to wait until young kits are around 6 months to start getting play time because they are still growing, they need all the calories they can get at that stage. They also wouldn't know when to stop, running the risk of over heating - possibly ending in heat stroke or even seizures. And they are clumsy, so falling is a risk too, espeically them being so fragile..

At 6 months they can start getting a little play time, maybe 10 -15 minutes every few days, and gradually add onto that as they get older.

I think it's a better idea to play it safe for a while and wait until they are older. :)

My chins are in my bedroom with a ceiling fan that runs all day and all night, no matter what season it is to keep the air circulating since the air won't move in this house otherwise, leaving literal warm and cold patches in it. They've been in there since they day I brought them home, and it's never seemed to bother them. The fan is not as noisy as the air conditioner anyway, and they've never indicated that they care about that sound either.
We've got lots of other noise in this household, and once they got used to it, they took to ignoring all of it.

A ceiling fan is fine. My chin room is currently in my house and I run the ceiling fan non-stop for air circulation as well as a window ventilation fan... and the A/C for the warm days.

Noise doesn't seem to bother my chins much. I also keep a radio on in their room 24/7 so they always hear music and voices on the radio... and it helps to drown out the sounds outside (my goats, the dog, the neighbor's tractor, etc.)

Awesome! Thanks so much for the info everyone :)

Someone said not to bring them out to play???? Im kinda lost on that one, please do explain! The will be 10 weeks when I get them! Should be this weekend....I went today to get all the things I think I'm going to need (except bath house) !

Anyone else have any good pointers.....I would LOVE to hear :)

I believe that the reason for no playtime out of cage until they are 6 months old is because the feeling that they need all their energy/calories for growing and that they can overheat easily.

If I'm wrong, a breeder will be able to correct me.

I explained a little of it in post #8 :)

Bet your so excited for them to come home! Please keep us updated! :D

Since they are all from the same litter, quarantine is not an issue. Are all three kits the same gender? If not, you will need to keep the males separated from the females. They will breed and siblings should not be allowed to do so.

They are all boys! We are putting all the ledges in the cage tomorrow and should get them Friday! I can't wait :)

We got our babies last night and they are sooo cute! I'm already in love with them! :)

And wow...can they make a mess!
