Hi,

I have a playpen for my chins, that they really like to run around. However, I moved to a new place recently, and realized that if I can just block off a few places, I could give them a lot more room to play around. I am sure they would love it, as they would be able to dash across the hallway (they sure love to run!).

I asked around at petsmart (I should have known this was a mistake before I even went there) and they directed me to the dog gates...which obviously had holes more than big enough for a chin to squeeze through.

Do you guys have any recommendations as to chin-sized gates or fences that I could put around my apartment?

Thanks a lot!

What size gates/fences do you need? First thing that came to mind was those storage cubes or hardware cloth, but I'm not sure how you would put them aganist the wall. Or maybe playpens would work to block off certain areas, since they are big grids. Dumb suggestions, I know lol

Are you thinking about letting them have the full house to roam? I would be hesitant about that, it would be hard to keep watch of them while they were out. And I'm sure you know, but they can get into just about everything ;) A single room is plently of space for them to party, or even a bathroom.

look into the one made for rabbits. The most common playpens for rabbits found are around 2 meters in diameter and about 6meters of fence for around $50.
The holes in these fences are small enough to keep em in, but compared to dog playpens you maybe need to look if the height of the fences are sufficient for the chins.

I made my own cheap, just 2x2 frame with hardware cloth. 4 feet high since chins can jump pet and child gates with no problems.

You could also take an existing gate/fence and line it with a sheet of cardboard. A large sheet should be safe from them chewing on it, but you would have to keep an eye on it.

I use the Marshall Ferret Playpen gate system, and I got it from www.ferret.com

I have two sets of the deluxe playpen gates, and two of the extender sets. They go all the way around the chins room, plus I have some extra panels that I use to place in front of the other cages when one set is out. Works like a charm.

I use the same playpen for my chin - 2 hooked together for a larger play space, but I have a chin who is not a high jumper. The only concern about this fence is that a lot of chins can easily jump over it...it just depends on your chin. I personally have never had an issue with it.

Oh, that's great! Those are FN cages, right? Do the playpens hook up to them? Because if so, I could have a very similar set up for my chins. Also, if you don't mind me asking, did you purchase the gates for the lower parts of the cage anywhere (a.i. the "storage" compartment)?

I have one chin that's quite a jumper, though (I've already underestimated her once, and she managed to jump around 2.5 feet and get out of her playpen when I didn't attach the roof). Do you have any suggestions/ideas?
Sorry to bother so much...I'm still kinda new at this, so I'll take any advice from the experts!

JasaisVu, I have a few chins that can jump 4 feet high. I use the same play pens but I've used zip tie to attach a second set on top of the first. As long as it's not in a straight lin it stands up just fine and is WAY TOO tall for any of my animals to jump over (it's way over my husband's head). When I fold it up it flops around so I zip tied some panels from storage "cubes" to that over lap both the top and bottom eveyfew panels and that solved the problem. It's been a great solution for keeping my super jumpers in.
