should have posted this in the thread I just did but I forgot...so I thought maybe I'd get some input about hair ring checks...
I just read a horrifying story about a bad hair ring and I thought hmm I havent done that in a few months (bad mommy). I've noticed that twice this week he has had his entire penis in his mouth grooming himself. So I just finished with a hair ring check. He acted like I was trying to murder him. I tried the whole burrito wrap, didnt help, wiggled his way out. I was afraid with all his wiggling and turning, and thrusting that I was going to hurt him. Plus when he started kacking at me and bit me it was getting really difficult.
FINALLY after about 10 mintues of trying to grab that little booger I finally got it out and it was nice and clean! Now he is sulking and wont come near me. lol. Is it normal for a chin to completely have their penis out and to have the entire thing practically in their mouths?
Besides the burritto trick, are there easier ways to stop the wiggling? I was terrified I was going to hurt his back or ribs trying to keep a firm grip on him. Whats everyone do?

My little Gus has done that before. The first time I saw him I was a little freaked out. But I guess he thought it needed to be cleaned.

My younger chin does the whole cleaning thing almost daily. It's a little disturbing to walk in on, but it seems to keep the hair rings away. Whenever I do hair ring checks, I always need a second person to hold the chin. Usually, my boyfriend would let the chin stand on his lap and hold their upper body with one hand, and the base of their tail with the other. It seemed to work pretty well, but they were still wiggly of course.

Hope I helped ;)

Totally normal for them to clean themselves... one of our boys is going through puberty and does it quite regularly. Probably sounds odd, but if you catch them doing it, try to take a quick look and see if there's anything there - that way you avoid having to do a check for another month!

I do better without a towel, they do freak out when you towel them. I do much better with just talking in a soothing voice and giving treats after. I do not use KY, that makes it so much harder. It is pretty easy once you do it about 20 times, so you will get used to it!

Thanks guys. I'm glad it only once a month! lol. I think I embarrass him more than anything! hehe

I see my chins often doing this, and I think they often do it, just because they can.

I do hair ring checks on my one chin almost every week. He always has them...

If I see a chin messing with himself more then usual I check again, even if I just did i the week before.

The first, and only time (I have had buddy for less than two months), I have done it, My husband held him while I did the check and he was upset with me for a little while. They get over it.

Buddy is also going through puberty and "cleans" himself often. It is a little weird but if he lets you get close to him, it is a great time to check between the torturous, hold them down, hair ring check sessions.
