It appears that the male chin has chewed her fur, or removed fur while fighting, or removed fur trying to mate. From the pictures it looks more like the result of fighting. He may have tried to mate with her and she resisted. Carefully examine her back and the back of her neck to see if she has any bite injuries.

Her fur will grow back but it will take time. Be sure she is eating and drinking normally.

Welcome to the forum :wave3:

i have a hunch the fur loss is from the male trying to breed with her, due to it's location on the back of the female. you really should have them separate and not in the same cage (i'm assuming they are housed together). you don't want to end up with babies that are not of quality, since health issues can come up all too easy. as well, new chinchilla owners should not be breeding, as it takes a lot of knowledge, and you want to be prepared should anything go wrong.
