I got my hedgehog a few days ago, did extensive research before getting him (his name is Bernard and he is 8 weeks old, salt and pepper pinto), but only now have I heard about the full spectrum lights (probably didn't do enough digging :/ )

Does anyone know if this is really needed (it probably is) and if so where I could get one at a decent price around Tavares FL?

there are also sources of heat you can use. such as heating pads. i'm planning to use a heating pad for my hedgie.

For heat, people either use a Ceramic Heat Emitter lightbulb or a space heater to warm the room/cage. Depends on how much space you are needing to heat. A heating pad is a great *secondary* heat source, but should not be used as the main source alone.

Our hedgies need to be at a temp between 72-78*F . I usually keep my hedgies room at a constant 75*F.

A full spectrum light bulb is for light not heat.

Some use full spectrum, some don't. I doubt you will find a definitive yes they need full spectrum. I use it, but I use it because I use it for myself. The key is that your hedgehog should get about 12-14 hours of light daily. With less light, some have been known to start showing signs of hibernation attempts.
