Hey there,

I just have a question, if someone can answer, about my year and a half old hedgehog, Velcro.

I've had him since he was about 5 months old, and he was a very loving, inquisitive boy, but for the past few months or so he has not wanted to come out or play, and gets very temperamental when I try to pick him up, with the whole curling into a spiky ball and puffing at me routine. All he wants to do is run on his wheel for about an hour, then go to sleep. He's only up for about 2 hours out of 24, and that worries me. He also looks perfectly healthy, and I make sure he always has a clean home.

Does anyone else have a hedgehog that has done a total 180 personality wise? Any input would be really appreciated : D

Since this is a new behavior in the last few months, and assuming you haven't changed any in his normal routine..... How much light is your hedgehog getting during the day?

Typically when one of mine is more grumpy than usual its because something in their life has changed.

However, not being as active could be a symptom of him not getting enough light. If he is getting less than 10 or 12, you may want to try turning on a light for that amount to see if he improves.

Light or temperature. If changing his lighting doesn't do anything, I'd raise the temperature a degree or two and see if that has an effect.
