Diesel is finally almost fully recovered from his bumblefoot flare up. However, earlier today I noticed his eye looked a little odd and he seemed to be squinting. A little bit later, I noticed it had started to water and he had a bit of goop in the corner. When does it end?? My poor guy has been through a month of medication and getting his feet cleaned twice daily with medicated wash, and now we're going to have to go back to the vet all over again and start treating his eye. When it rains it pours :(

Poor Diesel. I'm bummed to hear about his eye. I hope it gets better soon.

Instead of taking him to the vet right now, why not try terramycin opthamalic ointment? You can get them at feed stores (though mine seems to always be out of it, fun) or order it off eBay for around $5 including shipping which is a third of the price at a feed store or even the vet. I've had a few females that developed runny eyes recently and it cleared theirs up pretty quickly. Happened right after I moved the chins into the chin barn, cleared up about 5 days after I used the ointment. Not as strong as gentamicin of course, but I don't like rushing animals to the vet if there's something than can be done at home first. Poor guy has been through so much :(

I put some terramycin in last night before I posted, but I would prefer to see if there is a scratch on the eye or something else. He has to go back for his final assessment for the bumblefoot on Wednesday anyway, so I figured they could take a look at it then.

Thanks...his eye was quite goopy this morning and squinty. I tried to clean the goop out with a flush of saline and put some more terramycin in. He's definitely miffed and I tried to soften him up with some extra apple sticks and oats. Our appointment is tomorrow at 10:30..I'll let you all know how it goes.

I'm going to have to get some drops because I'm having a really hard time getting a good enough amount of the gel in. It's gets all over his fur more than anything. Today was his last day of antibiotics for his bumblefoot but I'm wondering if the vet will want to continue them now...I don't like that he's been on antibiotics for almost a month now.

Aw Stacie I'm sorry to hear this about Diesel :( Poor little guy, I hope his eye clears up quickly.

Just thought I would update everyone and let them know that it looks like Diesel's eye has cleared up and his bumblefoot is still under control. His feetsies as of right now look like normal chin feet. :)) Plus he's starting to come around and decide he sorta likes me again.
