I know chins don't have claws, they have fingernails like humans. Is there any way to file them down? I was playing with Ande today and he cut me pretty good with his nails, I looked and he has a point like a chipped nail on one and that's what cut me.

Would it be ok to use the pedipaws I use on my dogs and lightly file down that part of his nail?

Hold a chin firmly by the base of the tail, put only the front paws on the carpet letting the chin put some of his weight on the paws, then gently drag the front paws over the carpet. Their nails are much thinner than ours and the carpet will actually help to quickly wear down the nails with no damage to the chin. 4 to 6 maybe 18" to 24" passes should be enough to do it.

I don't know...normally the front feet are the problem, I never do that with the backs! That's so strange that he would be getting you with a back toenail...but that would hurt if it caught your skin just right.

Maybe take a pair of fingernail clippers or an emery board to it? That would probably be easiest....well, if you have someone to hold the chin while you do it.

Hmmm. I thought chins will groom themselves and trim their own fingernails by biting it?

Awesome. I just wrapped him in a burrito and plopped him on his back and just clipped that nail with fingernail clippers. It was pretty easy.

I've always trimmed my babies toe nails. I use a little nail clipper that is for human babies. Berry is a wild man, so if I don't trim them I get scratched pretty badly.
