Chichi loves to sleep in his wheel. He is getting a whole new setup within the next month, hopefully he will like his new wheel as much as he likes this one!

What is your Chins favorite place to sleep?

Umm, what the heck is that..

Its a wheel! *points to OP*

And what a wheel it is! Craziness! I hope he likes his new wheel too. What kind is it?

Petra likes to get to the highest perch, stand/sit on her back legs and fall asleep in this precarious position. It makes us all sad.

No, it looks like an accident waiting to happen.

One of the reasons I'm getting a new wheel for him, as stated in the first post. He has had the wheel for at least 3 years and, knock on wood, no accidents though.

I haven't decided on the wheel yet, but I'm getting a new cage, wheel, everything, basically extreme home makeover chinchilla edition. I can hardly wait, I'm so excited for him!!

Can't you take it out until you get a safe wheel?

Ive thought about it but he doesn't run on it for longer than a second or two, he loves to sit in it and sleep in it more than anything else. I do take it out at night or if I'm not home. His cage is in the living room for now so really the only time its in there is when I'm sitting in the room.

What about it makes you think it so unsafe?

I think the more important thing to remove is the snack log. It is not good for him. way to much sugar. I would also pitch the wheel. He will be fine without it :) Chin Spin is gr8. All 3 of my boys love theirs.

I think it looks unsafe cuz it has been chew quite a bit....the rod thru the center of it and the metal thing sticking out the center on the outside. Just would hate to see him get hurt is all.

Chinchillas run, get happy, and jump off. I'm sure your chinchilla has smacked his head good on that plastic atleast once since having that wheel.

Is that a pole going thru the middle? If it is-- unsafe object #2, he can hurt his back if he hits that.

It's just plain unsafe. Only the truth, I hope you get a safe wheel soon.

Agreed on the treat log. No need, too much sugar, and so on.

I'm glad that you are getting a new chin safe wheel, I'm sure your chinchilla will love it.

The other chinchilla, use to sleep leaning against one of her hanging toy, like she fell asleep mid chew. It was adorable.

I agree with the bar running through it being unsafe, its the main reason I don't like the wheel, the chew marks are before me. Ive had him for the past year, 3 if you count the time with my ex, and he hasn't chewed on the plastic at all that I can remember. If all he did was run in it, I think I would be more concerned, but he uses it as a bed more than anything else. I appreciate your concerns. It gives me more ammo when my bf asks why I am spending so much on my chinnie!!
