Yes, how is Theo doing? Hope he is doing better and had his eye checked out. It looks like an abcess to me also.

Any news would be appreciated.

I have been talking to the OP via email and have given her the option to surrender the chin to the rescue so he can receive medical care. He has not been to a vet.

I would be nice to get a update if the OP did the right thing and got this chin care or surrendered it.

No the OP has not surrendered the chin and the chin has not been to the vet. I have told the OP that her chin cannot be fixed on her own and that my offer will stand.

You can lead a horse to water ......

Poor, poor Theo :(

Tagna, thank you for being so kind & offering the chin the help he needs - it is a shame that the offer has not been taken up - I think this is what many people feared TBH.

I just wanted to let everyone know, i took theo to the ranch that i got him from, being the largest ranch in Canada, one of the largest in the world with over 5000 top quality chinchillas, i think they know what they are talking about. it is a fungus and i know how to treat it now. theo should be feeling better in no time.
how much money did i save here? possibly 500 or more, that i wouldn't have had in the first place to spend!
things work out for some people. and you guys, over react.
i will never come onto this form again looking for advice. ever.

Really? We over react? I think not. :nah:

YOU posted the initial problem Theo was having & asked for help - we responded to the information provided in your posts & gave our opinions. YOU chose to ignore us, not take the chin to a fully qualified vet & now are getting snotty because you think we are over reacting. Marvelous!

Something is off with your story.

So, I know you say you're not going to come back to the forum ..... apparently..... but I'd like to know the following:
In your initial post you state that Theo has lost weight, is not eating hard foods, is pawing at his mouth when he does eat & has an almost constant prolapse....... how does that fit with a diagnosis of fungus? Did that get explained to you?

Those symptoms are indicators of tooth problems, not of a fungal infection.

Seriously, how did you expect us to respond? Did you expect us to tell you exactly what to do from a photo & the post you made? That's not how it works & all we can do is give advice from the information you posted - that is why we told you to get Theo to a vet for proper assessment, diagnosis & treatment.

I want to know if those other problems have been resolved because I suspect not.

(missed my edit time)

That you chose not to take Theo to a vet or to take up Tagna's kind offer of help is disappointing but not unexpected - you were very clear that you did not want to spend money on your pet, regardless of the advice you were being given. We all made you aware that we are not vets & could not give you a diagnosis for your chinchilla. You came to the forum wanting us to give you the answers you wanted to hear & we didn't do that.

I sincerely hope Theo is being treated appropriately.

I'd like to know what ranch you are talking about? The only ranch out your way closed that I know of, The Riedstra ranch and when it closed it had nowhere near 5000 animals.

I wouldn't believe that this is a fungal infection after seeing the pics of this chins poop, knowing he won't eat and that eye issue.

Yeah you do, you over react!

Yes i posted the initial problem hoping someone had a similar that could guide me to some home treatment. i stated my situation, and you should have respected that. theo is NOT yours and you can't rescue every animal in the world. say i'm neglecting my animal, but i'm not. i hand feed him 4-5 times a day!

I am not coming back to the forum not because i didn't get the help that i wanted but because you claire are mean.

It is said that chinchillas can feel under the weather when they have a fungus. which causes them not to eat. and if you must know, i have noticed he has started to eat the oxbow that i got for him.
HE ONLY PAWS AT HIS MOUTH WHEN I'M FEEDING HIM WATERED DOWN STUFF! obviously because it drips on his chin and he wipes it away!

i am doing the best i can with the prolapse. i read online that it can take up to 2wks of putting it back in every morning till it stays in. and probably won't until he is feeling better from the fungus. i am doing my best to keep it clean morning and night.

The Riedstra ranch and i was just stated what it had said on their website, that is all.
