Good afternoon!
We just discovered an infiltration of small red ants in our livingroom, around our sliders that go out to our back porch. Our hedgie, Weeble, resides on the opposite side of the livingroom (in a cage, we don't let him free-range). Has anyone had any experience, or know what the protocol should be for ridding our house of evil ants but not causing any harm to our Weeble? Is it safe for him to remain downstairs while we spray? (we sprayed a little for now and covered up his cage with a blanket) We got this Ortho house guard stuff in a non-aerosol spray form, and the woman at the store said it was non-toxic when it had dried. She says she's used it and has both pets and kids and it's safe and works well. But, we just want to be on the safe side and wanted to know if anyone has had experience with bugs in the house and protecting the hedgie while the bugs are ousted. Are there any products out there that are better or safer than others? Any issues with ants getting into the hedgehog living quarters? I hate to think of ants somehow getting into his cage, being lured in by his food....eeek!
Please let us know! Greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Weeble and fam.

You shouldnt be spraying any pesticides while your hedgehog is in the room.. Covered cage or not. There are still toxins lingering in the air. if you re going to continue treating for the ants you should be finding another place in the house for him to stay in the meantime.

There are soem natural ways to get ride of ants. Apparently if you draw a chalk line the ants will be redirected around it. I was told they cant/wont cross chalk.. I have tried it and it didnt work for mine but I know other people who swear by it. Another thing I heard was cucumbers... like a spray or the juice or soemthing like that.. That they dont like it.. I also heard of chili pepper powder working..
