Hi all,

After about a month of waiting, Eloise finally came home on Monday! She's a 3.5 year old, standard grey girl. She's such a sweetheart and total attention hog. It was the typical situation- she was bought for their daughter who went to college and left her behind. The grandpa seemed genuinely sad to give her away, but it was for the best. He really loved her and was attached to her, but she was too much maintainence for him to keep up with.

She's a fur chewer, which I'm hoping is attributed to their two cats, which I believe had access to her room. I haven't caught her chewing her fur since she's been here, [though that doesn't mean much, lol] and I'm hoping the quieter environment here will calm her down and eventually stop the chewing. She has the prettiest, thickest fur that would look even more amazing if she allowed it to fill out. Lol. If she doesn't stop, oh well. I love her anyway! On to the pics, which are the most important part! :D

Eloise is adorable. Please be careful with all that plastic in her cage.

Can't forget the other babies!

Actually, that is the cage she was given to me in. She's in quarantine, so she does not get her new cage until it's over, which is the bottom half of a ferret nation.

She's such a little chunker, congratulations! Maybe you could take the plastic shelves and replace them with some wood shelves as she looks like she's already been chewing on them.

She's been living in there for 3 years already. The chewing has transpired over those years. Since she's been here (since monday), she's been getting more goodies to cure her boredom in hopes of stopping her fur chewing anyway and I haven't seen her chew plastic since. For everyone else who may post, YES, I know about plastic, yada yada yada. :deadhorse: She's doing good and I'm very proud of her ease into the new environment.

The yada, yada, yada and the horse beating was incredibly rude. The people here give advice because they want what's best for every chinchilla. Off the pictures it does look like she had been chewing, hence anyone even mentioning it. Telling people to **** off is childish.

Now on to the chinchilla. She is very pretty, even with the chewed fur. I have a chin here who has never stopped chewing, so don't be surprised if she doesn't. With the environment change it may fix it, but it may even make it worse. Just love her and her funny haircut for who she is.

I seriously doubt that you are watching her every minute of the day to see that she is not chewing on the plastic. I very nicely suggested that you only take out the plastic that is being chewed. Only 2 people had mentioned it because we care about the health of your new chin. Yet you've already had enough with a mere suggestion.

Exactly what I was going to say about the change of environment with a fur chewer. Thank you Crysta.

I don't mind if she doesn't stop chewing; that's not a concern of mine. I'm just trying certain tactics that I've seen people mention on here for things that may contribute to fur chewing- ya know, boredom, stress, lonliness, etc (I've been a lurker for five years or so- back even on cnq). She's a gem- I absolutely love her personality. Even the very first day home, she wanted attention and scritches; I was amazed. She's a doll and I look forward to our looonnnggg time together.

PS: Any LOST fans? Eloise Hawking is her namesake. ;)

Oy, okay. I don't like tension in the air- especially not on a forum like this. I want the thread to be focused on my new, little adoptee, as I'm very excited about her!

To whoever may have been offended by my blunt manner, I apologize. I don't mean offense. By nature, I'm just a brisk person and, I admit, it does take some getting used to by those who know me in person. I've been a little frustrated by the situation in which I came to get Eloise. I knew nothing of anything about her (my dad works with the daughter's mother, and the daughter's grandparents had taken Ellie in, so the mother really knew nothing about the chin- does that make sense? It confuses me still.) and every time I would ask my father to find out info on her so I could prep her arrival (the usual- what food is she on? What kind of cage? etc) and I would continually get the same "I don't know" answer. I didn't even know when I would receive her- I got a call at work Monday saying my father had brought her home. Needless to say- I didn't really know what to prep for.

She's being switched cold turkey to Oxbow, as I wasn't given any of her food to wean her off. She came with a Snak Shak, which promptly went into the garbage, as well as Alfalfa hay, which followed the Snak Shak. She isn't getting any fancy new shelves, but she is getting some plain pine ones to hold her off until she moves into the FN with my others, in which she'll have the fancy schmancy corner shelves with edging like my other furballs. Her new favorite thing is a willow tunnel which has replaced the igloo. All in all, it's been an expensive couple days! :p Sorry for taking any leftover frustration out on ya'll. ;)

SO *insert catching breath here*, can we all be friends again?
