Keeping wild ones, especially if you have other rodents, isn't always a good idea unless you can guarantee total quarantine. That said, the fancy mice people (like me) keep as pets now are just wild Asian mice selectively bred for 2,000 or so years. They're one of the original pets, right behind dogs and cats in terms of length of domestication.
My fancy mouse Grendel is going on 2 years old, which means I'll be losing him soon, but I'd definitely keep more, just probably not wild ones.
