Hi. Do any of you have one of those Eden-Pure heaters? We are looking into getting one. The ad claims them as being pet safe..but I think it is more in terms of pets being around it. Here is the thing...if we do get one...Rick wants to put Trixie's cage right ON TOP of it. I have looked over the website and do not see anything dealing with this. The heat, it seems is like natural heat (from the sun) and radiates out into the room. The body of it is not supposed to get hot. I am relly not comfortable with this. One, I do not think the thing is big enough to hold her cage. The unit is square, her cage is rectangle.
I am rying to find a good argument aginst using this heater as a base for her cage. Help.

I am not familiar with that heater at all but I personally would not put a chinchilla cage on any type of heater. Why does your husband want to put Trixie's cage 'on' the heater?

I agree with that, Carol Anne...he wants to put her cage on top of it because he says there is no where else in the room to put it. My feeling is if we set our minds to it, we can set up the living room (incluing her cage) around the darn thing. I see part of his point..he dies n ot want it directly opposite her cage, as he feels it will be too warm for her...but I still feel too much heat would radiate upward and make her too warm. I intend to win this battle...but I also know I need to have more facts to back me up. I would rather NOT get the thing at all rather than put Trixie in any danger.

Just because the casing doesn't get hot, doesn't mean it's not warmer near the unit. This is taken from the website "Once an EdenPURE heat exchanger absorbs infrared heat, it exhales that warmth into the atmosphere, carried by the existing humidity in the room."
The hot air has to come from the unit itself, meaning the air immediately surrounding it is going to be the warmest, no matter how well it thoroughly or evenly it heats a room. That fact in itself is reason enough not to have the cage on top of it.

Those heaters aren't that big. My mom has a couple of them. It would hardly take rearranging the entire living room to put the heater in it unless your living room is very, very small. One of my mom's fits underneath an end table by her couch, out of the way.

i would be concerned of the heat not only rising but also in the event something went wrong with the heater. there are many cases of small heaters malfunctioning and to me its too much to risk!

Dont do it girl is my vote

If your husband is going to be really stubborn about it, how about you get him to wear a really thick winter coat, hat, scarf and boots and then sit on top of the heater for an entire day and see if he gets hot or not. :hmm:
