I was wondering about dust baths for hedgies are they safe what should you use and whats the proper protocal for dust baths i haven't seen and pros or cons on dust baths and would love to hear input on them
thanks

Dust baths are not recommended for hedgehogs. They dry out their skin. Normal warm water baths are the proper protocol for hedgehogs. I use Aveeno oatmeal baby shampoo and lukewarm water and wash my hedgie in my sink. At this point I also cut her nails if they need to be trimmed. I also use hydra pearls spray since my hedgehogs skin is naturally pretty dry, and it helps to hydrate it. Make sure they are dried thouroughly afterwards :))

thanks for the input i do use the water bath when the time comes also with the aveno. ive just been hearing people everyonce in a while letting thier hedgie play in sand or dust bath for a little extra stimulation and wondering if everyonce in a while if it was ok
thanks

I wouldnt do it ever and dont know anyone who will. As it was already stated because it is overly drying and hedgie skin is already so sensitive and dry.

Also for overly dry skin I use Vitamin E after a bath.
