so i adopted a chin a couple weeks ago from a local animal shelter. The people who dropped her off didnt leave her food or a cage or dust or anythin, and her fur was matted and dirty, so im assuming she probably wasnt taken great care of. She is okay behaviou wise, she loves running around the room and she seems happier, her fur is even clearing up. I took her to the vet about 2 weeks ago and they said she was okay, except she had a small fungal infection near her genitals, so i was given this cream to put on it. I have been applying it almost everyday, but it actually getting worse. All the fur around her genitals is brown/yellowish, it goes all down her legs and up her tummy a bit, and i seems like she may be trying to clean it but it isnt working. I've given her some baths, tried wiping if off with a damp cloth, but nothing is working, and its getting worse. Im not sure what to do, could this cause any health issues? Should i take her back to the vet? Also she seems to be missing some fur around that area too. I could probably take a picture if that would help.
Thanks

I think a cream near the genital area is a bad idea, that is an area that gets groomed a lot so of course the chin would be ingesting it. I would take her to a different vet and get a different treatment plan personally. Maybe your vet is not as familiar with chins? Some people put Tinactin powder in the dust bath (you would have to look up amounts as I have never done this). I would be worried the diagnosis was incorrect given the treatment method. Maybe I am off the mark though...

yeah, this vet wasnt my normal chinchilla vet, but i wantde to get her in as sooon as possible because i thought she had teeth prblems (which the vet didnt even really check all that much) but she was supposed to have chinchilla experience. I'm going to make an appointment with my regular vet soon. Do you know if that area gets really dirty if it can pose any major health concerns?

I think that it depends on what is wrong. I would say it is not healthy for her to be dirty there if there is an infection of any sort. I would personally use a warm, damp, wash cloth and wipe her belly and genital area gently so you can view that area more clearly. Get a second opinion. If you think your chin has dental issues, regardless of what the vet says, get dental x-rays taken. The roots need to be looked at. I hope it is nothing serious. Keep us posted!
