I walked into my room today to find my chinchilla sitting in a puddle of pee on one of her shelves. Her underside and tail were completely soaked so I gave her her dust bath and let her use it for about 15 minutes. Now her fur looks matted together and wet still. Is there something I should do to clean her up more?

Also since there was pee on the shelves I put her into her carrier and did a full cage clean. While I was doing this I found a heat plug. Do they act oddly when they're in heat? She's never peed all over her shelves before and then sat/tried to roll in it. I say she tried to roll in it because she has some on her nose and I have no idea how it got there. Any information/suggestions would be helpful, Thanks!

You cold use a unscented baby-wipe to clean her up, and another dust bath after she's dry.
I'm not aware of any of my girls doing this - could this be her first heat??

She's only around 9-10 months old, do they get their first heat that early? However, I'm basing my counting on the fact that I got her from a pet store and at the time they told me she was 5 months old.

And thank you for the suggestion, I'll go see if we have any of those wipes, if not I'll have to wait until tomorrow to buy some.

Thanks for the tip! I'd hate to see her white belly get messed up
