I've had digital cable and regular cable. With the digital cable I had DVR which was nice...but our cable/internet bill climbed up to $130 a month by the time we moved. When I moved I got just regular cable because it was included in my rent and dirt cheap. I looked into digital cable/DVR again but being sky high I thought I'd search my options.

Tivo with regular cable is cheap for me because of the cable being included in my rent. And most of the shows I really like (I have enough) are on regular cable. So that works for me. I got the Tivo box for free with 1 year sign up and it was something like $120 I think...for 1 year with a box. Now that my 1 year is up it's $12 a month, which is priceless to me.

Depends on how much you like TV and what you like to watch...and how bad you want to see "your" shows. Dish just isn't worth it to me because all my shows are on regular cable and I get a group discount... just my $.02.

Don't forget to see how much more internet will be with satellite vs. cable company (cable offers those package deals).

In my house, we have had DirectTV for quite some time. We do have problems with losing signal if it's very stormy outside (very, very heavy: snow, wind, thunderstorm, hail storm... you get the picture). I think the longest we weren't able to get a signal was an hour or so, the shortest was just a few minutes on a particular channel. We also have DVR included in our deal. The only reason why we get DirectTV is due to my parents wanting to watch certain foreign country news channels and DirectTV offered a better deal.

My boyfriend's apartment has Comcast and weather issues don't seem to be as much as a problem. Also, that On Demand movies/shows seems to be a neat feature. He was also able to get HBO included in his package for a pretty good deal. He also uses their internet service.

I agree with kaykay that it depends on what shows you like to watch will guide your decision.
