Dangerous Hidey House

A friend of mine bought one of these for thier guinea pigs, and it broke & she found VERY sharp staples sticking out. I wanted to warn people on here, because as much as these fuzzies like to chew, that could be very harmful!

I thought about buying that particular house, but I figured it would have some sort of nails or staples in it. It's a shame that some of the cutest (and best selling) products for small animals are completely unsafe for them. Tell you friend to check out some of the wood houses sold by members of this forum!!

Cat uses all wood and they are some of the most beautiful and durable houses I've purchased. Plus they are very cheap

I wish I knew that a couple of weeks ago. I just bought one for Sedona but she rarely uses it anyway. She just chews on the little flaps on the sides but I'm glad you told us though and I will watch her carefully.

I actually sent her a few links from this site. I just saw it...guinea pigs aren't NEARLY as bad about chewing as the chinchillas are... That house simply broke from being dropped, and it was rather scary that there were so many staples in it...

I just wanted to warn everyone..didn't want someone's chinchilla(s) getting harmed.

It's a shame, because it is really cute & designed well...just not safe!

She might actually be able to take it apart, remove the staples, and use Elmer's wood glue to put it back together. If it's broken already, it might be worth a try!

That's true. We didn't glue Sedona's together because it's not like she can take it apart herself. I think we might try to take the staples out of the house ourselves and glue it together.

I have two of these houses,only cause I found them cheap like 5 bucks each.I pulled all visible staples out and sealed joints with Elmers glue,but to be on the safe side, they only get to use them at playtime!:wink2:
