SOOO...I usually wean by eye, and verify DOB as I'm getting them set up in their weaning cage. Well, thought this guy was ready to wean (based by eye) and got a weaning cage set up for him. Pulled his record, yeah, he's all of 39days old! Not even 6wks. So, left him with his mommy but also decided to weigh him. 316g Not bad at all!
SO, I haven't had many ebonies born, as I haven't worked with them in years. Likewise, I haven't shown any AND he'll only be 4.5mos at the time of show. FURTHERMORE, to complicate things, I know a LOT of ebony lines tend to grow slow. He's still very much in his baby coat (and with a fresh dusting is quite washed out) but his tummy IS very red yet. He hit a phase where he was quite red all over and is (from topside to belly) clearing up. Thoughts? I know he'll be young, but if he loses his red and continues to grow decently should he be shown so young? I won't have another chance to show him this season and really don't plan to hold him till next season either. But I DO want to know how my ebonies are doing as they're still quite new to me. Regardless, he's a cutie pie!
