So I read about feeding x amount of cc's per day for weight management, but I have a question. If you mix more water, you have more cc's, but really the same amount of food. So, I estimate that Chilli needs 2 tablespoons dry per day, which is 6 teaspoons, divided into 3 feedings. However, I want him a bit hungry so he will eat his pellets too. Therefore I am only giving 4 teaspoons each day. It translates into about 20 ccs per feeding, but I mix it slightly runny- like pudding. I find it easier to syringe.
How much dry is usual for feeding? He is a small boy, the most we know he ever weighed was around 640g.
Also, I find he does not always want it all at once, so I leave the syringe out for about an hour and go back to finish his food. Is that ok? I only did that two times so far. Should it go right into the fridge if he does not eat it all at once?

when richie was pretty much eating just the cc/pellet mix, i would divide his feedings into 3 times a day, as much as he would eat, but a minimum of 20cc's at each feeding. he usually would eat about 40 each time. then it struck me if i cut back, maybe he will eat on his own. so i went extreme and hardly supplemented at all and he lost weight. now i try and handfeed him in the AM and went i get home from work and only a little at the night time feeding as it seems that is when he eats his pellets and hay. i let him tell me when he is done, so sometimes he only eats 10 cc's at a feeding and sometimes 20 but as long as he is gaining weight or maintaining i am fine with that.
It seems to be working very good. i wouldnt get so hung up on the exact amount you "should" feed him but more on the weight he is gaining and/or holding steady.

i also always weigh him at the same time, usually at night before i feed him.

i usually microwave the food a little to warm it up, so whatever he doesnt eat, i push back into the bowl for next time. i think if you leave it out for just an hour it should be fine.
you should try and get him into a routine, now that he is used to getting handfed. during the week, i do before work, afterwork, before bed. (8:30, 4:30, 11:30) on the weekends, i try and just do 2 times a day. i need to do a minimum of twice a day because of meds, so 11 am & 11pm work good for me.
I hope that helped.
