A couple of weeks ago, I discovered that some one has copied parts of my website and posted the material on their own site. It is just a couple of paragraphs, but it was exactly, word for word, from me.

I have sent 2 emails, about 9 days apart. In the emails I have asked her to remove the text from her site. Both emails have gone unanswered, except for her auto-reply which simply says thank you and we'll get back to you.

I would like to know what everyone here thinks about this. What should be my next step?

Report it to whoever hosts her site. I just had to do this recently. Someone took pics of MY chins and put it on their site in areas where they could have been mistaken as their chins(they had them in among other chins of their herd pics...and their pics were of disgusting animals poorly cared for along with a couple pics of my nicely cared for and nie looking chins!).

I asked the person politely to remove them and they fought with me. They even claimed they got a lawyer(what a joke!) that said it WAS OKAY for them to use my pics without my permission so long as they aren't selling the animals in the pics!

They refused to remove them eve though I warned them they would be reported....

So I finally took it up with the host and they froze the person's account and took their website down. So I guess they are much happier now with the way it turned out. Shows them they can't go around stealing people's stuff and expecting to get away with it.

I think that is so wrong when someone does that. Plus it shows how unprofessional they are. If you have a statement at the bottom of your homepage saying that no photos or written material may be used without your written consent, then you have yourself covered. Make sure you always have the copyright date on your site too.

I have only used a couple of photos from other people on my site and they are not even of chinchillas. I emailed the people asking if they had one I could use for my site. They are in my links section for other rescues guinea pigs, hedgehogs and I have a note right next to the photos giving credit to those who allowed me to used them.

That's how I am. I always ask before using someone else's material and I always give them credit. To me, that is how it should be done. I do have a copyright date and text that states that no pictures or text on my site can be used without written permission form me. She did it any way.
