One of my cages is in view of my front door. On Halloween, a lot of the trick or treaters thought that my chins were rabbits and one little girl thought that they were big fuzzy rats. Of course, I did tell them (very nicely - we're talking kids here) that they are chinchillas. Most were very intrigues by them. I guess that they had never seen one before.

Chinchillas don't seem to be all that popular up here where I live so anyone that comes into our home is always fascinated by the fact that I have four of them and I'm yet to meet someone who doesn't want to check them out. They've all heard of chinchillas but have not seen nor felt their fur. I love to show off my boys. :D

A lot of my friends weren't familiar with chinchillas either... A lot of them thought my chin looked like a gray furry pikachu.

Whenever I tell someone that I have chinchillas, they usually have NO clue what they even look like. Luckily I keep pix on my cell phone but before I show them I tell them that they kinda look like a bunny, squirrel & mouse mixed up!

The only time I run into people who know what they are is if they know they are made into coats. I actually had to bring him into my dentist office and my hygienist tried to make me feel better by telling me that they had a good life before they were made into coats otherwise their fur wouldn't be as good. I left not so happy!
