So you are breeding mutts then, kinda like labradoodles, cockaperds, and greatuahas? And you justify that by saying it's okay, because they are just pets?

Yippee.

There are nothing wrong with mutts. Mutts have much better health than pure bred dogs out there. The extent to breed Chihuahuas and Great Danes is a bit much. If people out there do that...then they do. There's nothing I can do about it.

So you're saying that by breeding animals with unknown backgrounds, you're creating hybrid vigor? We don't selectively breed chinchillas to the point that they are more prone to disease or malocclusion. Once again, you are proving you haven't done an ounce of research into breeding but decided male+female=fuzzy baby. Responsible breeders have spent the last 50yrs+ breeding AWAY from ailments and you think it's just dandy to undo our hard work with one breeding. You think your chances are low for ailments and you're wrong. I doubt you'll have your chins long enough to see if they develop malo.

Do you have any idea how many times people like you come on forum and spout the exact same crap that you are? "Oh, it's okay. Mutts are great." Sure they are. That's why they are sitting heaped one atop another in shelters everywhere. That would be because people are lining up three deep to adopt them.

Please, if this is how you are going to justify being a completely crap breader, don't post on CnH. We have people who are actually trying to be responsible with their breeding and with their chins, who are willing to listen and learn. We don't need another breader who knows it all and is going to tell us all how it should be done so they can justify getting every cheap chin they can get their hands on and breeding the piss out of them. No one here is interested.

The male has nothing to do with being bred back. Do you think it's stressful for him to jump on the back end of a female and hump himself silly? It shows a huge lack of knowledge on your part to even comment on that. The breedback issue is the FEMALE, not the male.

And you are missing the point completely, or you are choosing to ignore it. Try re-reading Stackie's post.

I somehow missed this reply. I misread Stackie's post. I apologize. The standard female has not been bred since the moment I got her.

Yes, there are tons of mixed breed dogs in shelters because of irresponsible breeders and the fact people want pure bred dogs or little cute froo-frooey dogs. I'm not going to say I'm irresponsible for breeding my own pet chinchillas to make pet chinchillas for myself. I am not breeding for show, so whether they are "breeder quality" to me does not matter.

I am not saying I "know-it-all." or tell you all how to breed your all's chinchillas. I did not say anywhere that you all should breed my way or no way. I'm also not breeding the piss out of mine neither. If I was so irresponsible I would have just kept the male in with my female.

If you want to breed, look into a mentor, attend shows and figure out pairing quality to quality to better the species both through appearance AND health. I know you are keeping these kits but that does not make reckless breeding any better. By the way, I would be careful to state how wonderful mutts are...I love my mutt dog but where I got her from, 500 dogs a week die...so breeding should not be taken lightly and certainly not without responsibility. I think it is a good start to be on this board...use it as the tool it is and breed with knowledge and purpose...not just to create little fluffballs. Unfortunately, even though chins are threatened naturally, they are quite overpopulated as pets. Again...it is good you are keeping them, but just for future breedings, I hope you can heed some of the advice given here.

Well, isn't that just a dandy example of the pot calling the kettle black.

You put two chins of unknown background and health together, but because you're just breeding them for your own selfish reasons it's all going to be ok. What happens two or three years from now when you realize you can't handle all the chinchillas you have? Who do you think will end up with your rejects and their health problems? Just because an animal APPEARS healthy does not make it healthy.

This is from a pet owners prespective who is frankly tired as all get out with malo chins and chins with heart issues to the point I will not get anymore. Its disgusting here in CA how many people there are like this.

As long as we have people who breed whatever the HECK they want, we won't EVER get rid of these issues and people like me who take in the rescues who are PRODUCED by people like this when they get tired of their little hobby of breeding to make PETS WILL eventually get tired of this crap and go away, and they will end up in shelters and be killed off since no one will want this crap.

A breeder quality chinchilla is often times not for show! A breeder quality chinchilla ensures the PET OWNER of an animal who will be healthy, who will not be born with a history of maloclussion, who will not be born with a history or genetic issues such as fur chewing. Not all breeders breed chinchillas strictly for sure--many pet owners want an animal that comes from a good, reputable breeder because they know they animals said breeder has are taken care of.

To breed ANYTHING for the sake of having a pet is irresponsible--it's the same as young teenage girls wanting to have a baby so they have something to love for piss sake!
