Let me just start off by saying....never let a man cook his own meal in the oven. *sigh*

The other night Phil made himself some baked meal thing, and spilled not some, but a lot of whatever on the oven door. And left it to bake on while his meal cooked. :hair: I have been trying all morning to scrub the baked whatever off to no avail..it is really caked on there. I've been using some orange citrus cleaner stuff..I have sprayed and let it soak several times but it's not working. Anyone have some good tips and/or products?

If you're oven doesn't have a self-clean option, go buy an oven cleaner product, throw it in there, and walk away. Let it do the work for you.

Ditto on the oven cleaner.

Another thing I do with cooked on stuff is soak a towel or rag in hot soapy water and lay it on top of the mess and let it just sit there for a few hours. Sometimes just being wet all that time will loosen it up.

Also beware of citrus cleaners with anything with sealed glass. I'm not sure about the window in the oven, but I know the sealant on glass cook-tops can be corroded by orange-based cleaners.

Make sure to get 'no fumes' oven cleaner... that one is almost bearable- the 'regular' one is beyond toxic... even with all windows open. Oven cleaners are some of the most toxic/corrosive household chemicals in free sale.
And use rubber gloves and a paint-grade mask (even goggles if you have them)- or even better pass them to your husband after the oven has soaked overnight. ;)

I used a utility razor blade to scrape it off and it looked like new! That's how I clean the ceramic cook top if it's needed too. Keep the blade new and sharp.

for those of us with gas ovens, what can you use to clean the entire oven, that is safe to use in gas oven? My oven is years overdue on a cleaning and I might just have to blow it up!
