These sound weird but they are SUPER GOOD! They have m&ms and sunflower seeds! The salt plays off of the sweet and they are sooooo yummy (an unhealthy, but who cares!). From a Pilsbury cookbook from 25 years ago!:
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 cups Flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups M&Ms
1/2 cup of SALTED shelled sunflower seeds (unsalted will NOT work!)
Heat oven to 350 F. In a large bowl, combine shortening, margarine, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla. Mix thoroughly. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup, level off. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt. Add 1 cup of M&Ms and the sunflower seeds; mix well. Chill dough, if needed, for easier handling.
Shape dough into 1.5-inch balls (too big is too hard to get done); place 4 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Press in remaining 1/2 cup of M&Ms to decorate tops. Bake at 350 F for 10 to 15 minutes until LIGHT brown (not too long!). Allow to cool slightly before removing.
Give these a try if you aren't allergic to the seeds, of course. They are so good. The only cookies I like more are the ones made with oatmeal, chocolate, and peanut butter (my recipe for that isn't right,though....bummer).
If anyone tries them let me know what you think!
