I had a birthday party at my house this weekend & it was the first time anyone has really been over to see all the chins.

We did some rearranging and now have 8 of the 10 boys in the finished basement. They are in 3 FN's (142) & 1 Feisty Ferret.

I honestly felt like a zoo keeper! I felt like I was giving a tour & complete history of chins for the whole time. It was nice that my boys were on display and most of them were well behaved. I was able to get 2 of them out and let one of the guests hold them. And one boy got an extra dust bath because they really wanted to see how they bathe.

It was also nice to hear that the house didnt smell, not even where the guinea pig resides! (i just cleaned her cage tho...she is a bit stinky!)

Thanks for reading.

whenever I have people over they also wish to see the chins. I used to have to warn people about Sam though, he was a very loving boy to me and Stewart but not nice to other people very often. As he and Baxter look very similiar I would do the whole, that's the good cat, that's the bad cat lol!

All my chins are in my room, which means someone is meandering in there to see the chins. I feel a bit better with guests in my room in in the new place as I have my one zillion romance and erotica books packed in the closet so I don't have to hear, holy crap did you read all those books?

Mick St. John, Abigail and Wesley are very friendly with guests! Leonard is on the cusp--Bobo you are taking your own life in your hands--touch her if you dare!

I burn candles before guests arrive, just in case. Chinnies gather in front of their cages to welcome my guests, so they usually love my chins and have a look at them one by one.

living on a college campus, most of the people who come to see Gizmo are my friends. a lot of them have never heard of a chinchilla before so i get all the basic questions:
WHAT IS IT?!?!
what does it eat?
do people really make coats out of them?
how long does it live?
does it bite?

i definitely love going into stories about them. but sometimes i try to hold back a bit. my friends know im weird/quirky but i still try to keep my obsession to a minimum. thankfully my room never smells. i ask my roommates all the time (in case ive just gotten used to it) and they always reassure me that he's fine.

gizmo is pretty good with people. he likes the attention and getting scritches. but i dont let people hold him. mostly cuz he hates being held and he really only feels comfortable with me holding him (though only if im taking him to the bathroom for playtime).

I've had more than a few parties at my house since getting the first 2 of my 5 chins and I have my 2 handy dandy assistants now answering all questions about the chins. What was funny and interesting was our last party, it was my hubby's birthday plus his business was celebrating 20 years and he invited all of his clients and their families. Only he was giving the tour and answering questions about the chins. He did pretty well for the most part from when I was there to listen. Some of the kids and one particular drunk female client wanted to take the chins out to hold and pet but thats when the assistants and my nieces kicked in gear. They know no one is allowed to open the cages when a party is going on, plus I have those "s" shape rings that I placed around the door knobs of the FN.

Oh and yes, I get the same stuff said, "Wow your house doesn't smell like rodent's live here?" "Are you breeding them to make your own fur coat"? (I just roll my eyes and say idiot, under my breath for that one)! "I can't believe all these cages?" It's like a pet store in here!" Oy!

Since I have 3 small kids we do alot of parties here at the house. The kids LOVE to come to my room and see my chinchilla and ask alot of questions. I take chi chi out to be petted since she just loves to be out. I make all the kids wash there hands and make sure they are dry and no body holds her but me. I do keep a small luggage lock on my cage during parties on both my chinchilla and guinea pig. My best friend had a party for her twins and some kid took off to play with her guiena pig and accidently broke its neck. She now keeps a small lock on her cage when company is over. I just don't want a accident to happen like that. I hope I don't sound to paranoid you can just never be careful around kids

I shut the chinchilla room door and say off limits unless I am in there. If we are having a party I will bring one out for people (usually neptune) before anyone drinks too much. I also have an aggressive dog. Usually if we have a party she sleeps at my parents as she is too protective of me. I just say she is locked in the chinchilla room if I want people to stay out. It works, She has never bitten anyone but Marshal's friends are afraid of her. She is all talk but don't tell them that LOL

Same here. Unless someone is coming to adopt a chinchilla there is no reason for them to be in the room with them. If someone has questions I will always answer them, and will bring out Roxas if they want to pet/hold one. He's always my go to chin since he doesn't mind being held. If someone is coming by to adopt, or see the rescues, they will be allowed in the room only after they have washed their hands/arms.

If they want to see them dust them can go on youtube.

I know I sound harsh, but I do not want a bunch of hands all over the chins. Don't get me wrong, if it's a good friend and they want to see how the chins are, then yes, I will let them in to see them. This is more for strangers who come in for other things that see the chinchilla supplies, or know I own/rescue chinchillas.
